Garden and chalet in an Alpine landscape

ALPINE GARDENS, REIMAGINED

The House

The mountain
comes home.
A garden born of the Alps.

EXPLORE
OUR PERSPECTIVE

Bring the beauty
of the Alps home.

A Garden Born of the Alps.

Nature is our greatest inspiration. A mountain meadow in flower. Stone shaped by time. The movement of grasses, or water finding its way between rocks. The Alpine landscape has a quiet sense of balance, and this is where our thinking begins.

Our ambition is to bring a little of the mountains into your garden. A rock garden that follows the contours of the land. Flowers that recall an Alpine meadow. A path through planting, the sound of a stream or the stillness of a pool. Composed around the house, the light and the surrounding landscape, these elements help a garden feel as though it has always belonged.

Before drawing, we look: at the slope, the aspect, the soil, the existing trees and the views worth keeping. Planting is chosen for those conditions, bringing changing flowers, foliage and textures through the seasons. The garden does not need to compete with the mountains. It can become part of their story.

Above all, it is a place to live. To gather, play, grow and share an evening around the fire. Garden Design gives those possibilities shape; Garden Care helps them evolve. A landscape that feels personal, connected both to the Alps and to the way you enjoy being home.

STONE

The character of the land.

Rock gardens, natural stone and mineral textures bring structure and depth. Their scale and placement respond to the ground itself, working with the slopes and the planting around them.

PLANTING

The spirit of Alpine meadows.

Flowers, perennials, grasses and shrubs create living compositions. Planting follows the soil, altitude and aspect, allowing the garden to respond to its setting rather than imitate somewhere else.

WATER

Movement. Stillness. Sound.

A stream, a small cascade or a pool can become a garden’s focal point. Each idea is explored around the land, available water and technical requirements, with the scope of the work defined for the project.

Inspired by nature. Composed with care. Made for living.

THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT GARDENS

A place to come together.
Room for everyone.

We imagine gardens as places where connections grow naturally. A generous table brings people together. A kitchen garden invites shared discoveries. A place to play gives children room to grow. A little further away, a quiet bench or a path among the flowers lets each person find their own pace.

Spaces are connected with care, so that shared moments and personal space can sit comfortably alongside one another. Paths, views and planting help people feel part of the same place, with the freedom to gather, wander or simply be still.

To welcome, to share, to teach and to care for one another. For us, these are part of living in a garden too. A place with room for the people you love, and room for a quiet moment of your own.

OUR COMMITMENTS

Committed
by nature.

A garden’s beauty also lies
in the life it welcomes.

The mountains taught us to look before intervening. To notice the richness of a meadow, the patience of a tree, the delicacy of a balance. We want to bring that attention to every garden: a place composed around you, rooted in its landscape, with room for nature to continue its work.

This commitment takes shape through practical choices, agreed with you around the land and the way you live outdoors. Keeping what belongs, choosing plants thoughtfully, caring for resources and adapting our work to the rhythms of living things.

01 — PRESERVE

Begin with what is here.

An established tree, a hedge, weathered stone: we first look for what the garden can keep. Plant health, everyday use and safety guide what can be preserved and woven into the design.

02 — PLANT

Choose for the place.

Soil, aspect, altitude and winter conditions guide our planting palettes. We favour well-adapted plants, locally native species where suitable, and a succession of flowers that can offer food for pollinators.

03 — CONSERVE

Care for soil and water.

Mulch, keep soil covered and add organic matter where it is needed. Adjust watering to the plants, their establishment and the weather. Where suitable, leaves and chipped prunings become resources within the garden.

04 — WELCOME

Leave room for the wild.

A quieter edge, stems left through winter, timber or stone can offer shelter for wildlife. Before pruning or cutting long grass, we look for nests and animals so the work and its timing can respond.

05 — ENDURE

Build with restraint.

Reuse existing stone and materials where their condition allows. Favour permeable surfaces where appropriate. Plan directed lighting for the places and times it is needed, leaving room for darkness too.

THE ART OF A CONSIDERED TOUCH

Cut less.
Let life flourish.

A neat path through longer grass. Flowers given time to open and set seed. A shrub encouraged to keep its natural shape. We value a garden where careful composition leaves room for freedom.

This is a differentiated approach to garden care: places for walking, playing and gathering stay regularly maintained; elsewhere, we can propose less frequent mowing, a higher cut or meadow areas with cutting timed around flowering and wildlife.

Thoughtful pruning follows the same principle. Growth and flowering guide the work, alongside plant health and the way the garden is used. Together, we set a rhythm suited to the altitude and seasons, keeping access, visibility and safety in mind.

DISCOVER GARDEN CARE
OUR STORY

Mountains and images.
Then the garden.

Their first kitchen garden was a beginning. With their hands in the soil, Guillaume and Jenny discovered an interest that never left them.

An eye for composition.

Before Vertige Alpin, Guillaume and Jenny ran a communications company. They created websites, films, advertising campaigns and photographs. Framing a view, reading the light and finding the rhythm of a composition taught them how to bring separate elements together and create a feeling.

Learning from the mountains.

Their shared background also includes high-mountain guiding and mountain walking leadership. Taking people outdoors, introducing landscapes and their flora, and sharing an attentive way of looking at nature deepened both their love of the living world and their appreciation of beautiful things.

Hands in the soil.

Then came their first kitchen garden and a garden of their own. It was a practical beginning, shaped by observation, experimentation and the pleasure of watching things grow. They continued learning through work for others, encountering different gardens and the care each one needed.

A house of their own.

That journey led to the wish to develop their own perspective, philosophy and personal relationship with clients. One question connects it all: why not bring a little of the mountains and their nature into our gardens? Vertige Alpin brings together this feeling for landscape, an eye for composition and the pleasure of caring for a living place.

THE FOUNDERS

Guillaume & Jenny.

Two founders whose shared journey connects visual design, the mountains and the garden. Their common purpose: to create outdoor places for living, inspired by the Alps, and to care for them over time.

With Jenny, Guillaume made their own garden the starting point of a new direction. Learning continued through work for others, before the creation of Vertige Alpin: a house in which to develop their shared perspective and care for gardens for their own clients.

With Guillaume, Jenny wanted to bring together the sense of composition and love of nature that had shaped their journey. From their first kitchen garden to Vertige Alpin, the shared ambition remains: to bring the spirit of the mountains into personal, welcoming gardens full of life.
